Youssef Anouar defended his PhD thesis in 1991 on the regulation of secretogranin II and chromogranin A by estradiol in the anterior pituitary gland at the University of Rennes. After a post-doctoral stay in the National Institute of Mental Health, NIH, Bethesda, USA, between 1992 and 1995, he became INSERM researcher in 1996 at INSERM U413 in the University of Rouen and since 1998, a group leader of the team now named “Neuroendocrine plasticity and pathophysiology”.

He was the director of INSERM U982 then U1239 between 2008 and 2021, and is now a team leader at U1239. Youssef Anouar is currently the President of the Society of euroendocrinology and a member of the National Council of the Universities in physiology. His current research focuses on the physiological and pathophysiological functions of neuroendocrine cells.
